This proposal explores how environmental cli- mate change has begun tugging at the social and economic framework that holds together the urban fabric of coastal cities globally by examining the cultural and architectural issues intrinsic to the siting of a floodable site. Sited in a low socioeconomic food desert, the scheme is one that hypothesizes the community center as a step to- ward community sustainability and equity through the production and exchange of food, education of its citizens, and sheltering of its community. Programmatically, the community center serves as a horticultural and culinary hub, where resi- dents and visitors can learn about and practice the intricacies integral to growing and preparing food. Additionally, the center features a sunk- en outdoor market to sell and distribute food. During emergency protocol, it provides food, houses distribution of emergency supplies, and provides sheltering for its adjacent community.
